(Pssssttt - If you’d rather watch/listen to me talk about this instead of reading, check out this video to hear more about why I quit VIPKid! Otherwise, carry on. :) )
Disclaimer: This post might not be what you’re expecting! I didn’t quit VIPKid because it’s a horrible company or because I hated my job. In fact, teaching online with VIPKid has been such a blessing to me and my family when we needed it most. And yet...
It’s no secret that VIPKid is always changing their procedures and benefits for teachers. Over the past year, these changes have not been in the favor of teachers, and one of the biggest changes has been the pay & incentive structure. When these changes were implemented, I took a significant pay cut (along with thousands of other teachers)! Not cool, guys.
Then there was the whole adjustment to the available hours for teaching when China’s Ministry of Education changed the regulations, which knocked off a full hour of work for me every day. Oh, look - another pay cut. VIPKid was there for me when I needed it most, but the time has come for another transition.
In March of 2020, I started teaching online through Outschool. With this online marketplace, I get to teach my own curriculum, choose my own schedule, and set my own prices. If this sounds appealing, you can check out this video to learn more about what Outschool is. It has been an amazing opportunity and has led me to my latest passion: coaching and course creation.
My passion for curriculum development and coaching allows me to serve others, bring in some additional income, and spread the joy of teaching what lights you up. I am dedicated to helping others identify their God-given strengths, skills, & talents so they can move forward in confidence, doing exactly what they were created to do. After working and coaching teachers through 2020 (and now 2021), I’ve created a couple of things to make life easier...
Teacher's Personal Secretary is a system that allows you to get all of the chaos out of your head and into an organized (color-coordinated!) system in just two days. Check out this blog post for more info.

Aside from online teaching, I also have a passion for Women's Ministry! I’ve hosted two virtual summits, and I have plans to offer more this year! It’s so uplifting and encouraging to gather online with other amazing women and dig into God’s word! If you’d like to watch the replays of our first two summits, I’ve got them linked here for you:

Ok, wrapping it all up… The last (and probably most important) reason I needed to step away from VIPKid was because I’ve got to take care of myself and my health! Burnout is a very real thing. After dealing with so many health issues (just two neck surgeries, a bone tumor, a 2nd shoulder surgery, and not being able to walk for a couple of years… as one does), it is crucial that I intentionally take care of my health. I’ve still got to be a mom, wife, sister, friend, ALL THE THINGS for others. If I can’t function, I can’t accomplish ALL THE THINGS! Quitting VIPKid has allowed me to sleep again (hallelujah, amen) and to take better care of myself.
I want to hear from you! Are you still working with VIPKid? Do you want to start teaching online but aren’t sure where to start? I’d love to hear from you! If you have questions, I’m here for you. Email me at [email protected]
Bottom line: I love what I do, and it doesn’t feel like hard work! #winning
