After multiple requests to start reviewing the books I share about so often, you are officially viewing the first installment of what I’m lovingly referring to as my Reader Review. Here we go!
I had so much fun being part of a book launch team earlier this year (which I will also be sure to post about soon), so I was thrilled when I received another opportunity from one of my favorite authors to launch another new book into the world!
Jon Acuff is one of my all-time favorite speakers, authors, and podcasters, so this will not be the last time you see his name on my site. Today’s Reader Review is about his latest book, and it’s a very special one that I will be gifting to parents and teens from now on!
After releasing Soundtracks, Jon received so many requests for a version of the content that teens and young adults could relate to that he decided to collaborate with his teen daughters, L.E. and McRae. BOOM! We got You’re New Playlist: The Student’s Guide to Tapping Into the Superpower of Mindset.
You can tell by the title alone that it’s a book that everyone wishes they had when they were growing up and figuring out how to do life, but just in case you need some extra convincing, here are a few of my favorite quotes:
“If you’re not kind to you, it’s like hanging out with a jerk all day.”
“Enough isn’t a finish line, it’s a hamster wheel, and you never stop spinning if you chase it.”
“Be brave enough to be bad at something new.”
So good, right?? That last one is my current soundtrack, so please allow all the grace as I stumble through the rough patches of my new adventures. I’m being brave over here! For example…
There was a live Zoom session with Jon and his girls for those who were on the book launch team. Not only did I show up (which is often the biggest, hardest step), but I also had my camera on the whole time and raised my hand to ask them a question. This felt SO BRAVE, y’all, (which also feels so silly) and it was amazing to connect with them in that way!
Here’s my favorite part so far - my 14-year-old is excitedly reading her way through it, and she has already decided she wants to teach a class on what she’s learning to her small group at church. What?! (This is fully worth that $20 reward, Jon! 😉 #iykyk)
So there’s the first of many Reader Reviews to come, and I have quite a list that I’d love to share over time. Comment below or reach out on Instagram if you have a book you want me to review here on the blog!
Some of the links I share are affiliate links, and I will earn a commission if you go through them to make a purchase. Keep in mind that I link these companies and their products because I think they are amazing and not because of the commission I receive from your purchases!
